Conviction comes from self-belief and in turn, is a firmly held belief. It is internal and leads to commitment, what the world sees and what you project as a leader. I like to think of conviction as inwards and commitment as outwards. Belief is a mindset and you need to choose the thoughts that give you the emotion to be excited and sure of yourself as a leader.
Our beliefs are based on so many factors such as our experience, culture, upbringing and ultimately our map of the world and how we view it. You need to authentically believe in who you are and what you are doing as a leader. Clear purpose, congruency of values, direction and passion will assist in increased confidence and belief within your self. When self-belief is authentically ignited and projected, others cannot help but believe in you.

Like most people, many of us are not even aware of our own beliefs, they are not something on our radar that we think about or question consciously. It’s worth investing in the time to map out your beliefs. Remember beliefs are what we tell ourselves, usually over and over again. The more attention and thought we give them, the more real they become. You need to make sure your beliefs serve and empower you, if they do not, the great news is you can rewrite them.
